Update: The Alzheimer’s Blogging Competition is now over, and entries have been sent to the Alzheimer’s Research Trust to judge. Thanks so much to everyone for entering – and be sure to watch out for the winners!
How you can get exposure for your blog/writing, get a blogging job and win amazing prizes – all while helping to defeat a deadly disease…

If you are a writer or you have a blog or a website (or a squidoo lens or a hub page!), you’ll know that it is important to spend time getting publicity and exposure in order to get readers.
In fact, writing, publicity and networking can take up so much time that it can be difficult to find time for other things – including helping out with charity.
Very often we don’t reach out to help other people not because we don’t care, but because we are so busy.
But what if there was a way to write content for your blog or website, get the chance to win prizes and publicity AND get to do something amazing for society?
I think I’ve come up with the solution!
What can you do?
For as little as a pound or a dollar – all of which will go to Alzheimer’s research – you can enter our competition, promote your blog, help defeat Alzheimer’s and get the chance to win one of these great prizes:
You’ll also get:
Don’t like writing? No problem – you can also create a podcast or video.
Don’t have a blog? No problem – keep reading for other suggestions!

The Cause: Alzheimers Research
A new case of dementia occurs every 3 minutes in the UK. In the US, the disease causes the death of one in five over-65′s.
Tens of million of people worldwide have been struck by Alzheimer’s, and this frightening number is expected to double over the next 20 years.
A few years ago it touched my favourite writer, Terry Pratchett. Since he started writing, my children and I have read every book he has ever written, laughing at his wit and blinking with surprise at the insights generated by his great mind.
Now he can no longer type, but still dictates his books – and fights Alzheimer’s with both courage and humour.
The fact he can still do so is due partly to charities like Alzheimer’s Research which help fund research into the disease.
Research which has already produced drugs which can slow down the effects of the disease! Now it’s time to find a final cure.
Alzheimers and You
You or your family may very well have been touched by the disease yourself.
And you may yourself experience the brain-shrinking disease in the future. One in ten people over the age of 65 will develop Alzheimer’s, a number increasing to more than half of people over the age of 85. (Source: http://helpguide.org/elder/alzheimers_disease_symptoms_stages.htm)

Despite the ravaging effects of the diseases, miniscule amounts of money are being poured into researching cures.
Research carried out has been fruitful, and solutions have already been found that slow down the progress of the disease. Yet just £12 per patient is spent annually on research into Alzheimer’s, compared with £289 per patient spent on cancer.
I think this is wrong. If you do too, why not enter our Alzheimer’s Blogging competition, helping to raise money for charity, promote your blog AND get the chance to win a great prize?
Where can you put your entry?
Anywhere you want! If you don’t have a blog there are plenty of sites you can add a post to – and some (like Squidoo!) even give you the option of making money for yourself or charity while you do so!
Here are a few suggestions:
Promote your blog/website
Before you have written your blog post:
Make sure to enter your blog name on our donation page – if you donate more than £10/$15 your blog/website name will appear on our donation page. (Alternatively, you can donate on our Virgin Giving page.)
After you have written your blog post:
1. Email us and let us know – we will promote a selection of entries on our blog.
2. Share it with thousands of other bloggers on our thread at the friendly MyBlogGuest community.
3. If you write a winning post, wait for it to be announced on the Alzheimer’s Research UK site and in our press releases.
4. Share your post on our facebook page.
Rules
1.Entrants can be of any nationality but entries need to be in English.
2. You must pay a submission fee, which will go towards Alzheimer’s research. However, how much you give is up to you, and can be as little as one dollar or £1.00 None of your money will be spent on prizes, administration or running costs, and all profit from Alzheimer’s and Dementia products sold by TheDisabledShop during the competition will be donated to Alzheimer’s Research UK.
If you can’t manage a pound/dollar, you can still help – spread the news about the competition to other bloggers. Here are some ways to promote this competition:
3. In your post, you must clearly mark your post as an Alzheimers Blogging Competition Entry AND tell your readers/viewers/listeners how they can enter our competition. The more people who enter, the more people will learn about Alzheimer’s research and how they can help raise money, and the quicker we can defeat this dark disease.
4. Email your entry to alzheimerscomp@gmail.com, submit it to our thread on MyBlogGuest or add it to our Squidoo lens by 31st March.
The winning entries will be chosen by Alzheimer’s Research UK, while TheDisabledShop may also offer writing positions to contest entrants.
What you can write about:
Here are some suggestions:
1. How Alzheimer’s/dementia has touched you, or someone you know.
2. Alzheimer’s in general.
3. A famous person who has developed Alzheimer’s.
4. The Alzheimer’s Research organisations and their work.
5. Products that help people with Alzheimer’s or their family. There are a whole range of products that can help people with Alzheimer’s and their families, and many people are not aware of them. (Please note that all profits from our Alzheimer’s/Dementia section from TheDisabledShop.com will be donated to Alzheimer’s Research UK during the competition).
6. The different stages of Alzheimer’s, recognised as a three-stage disease.
7. How to identify Alzheimer’s Disease.
